Fog lamp and headlight tips

Andrew Murphy reported that when he installed fog lamps they would not come on with the headlights.  After some head scratching he discovered that they do come on when the ignition is turned on.

Keith Williams suggests using the fog light circuit as a relay power source to control new headlight relays and relieve the original wiring from the high current load.

It has been suggested many times that the headlights would be better powered directly from the battery by installing new relays and proper fusing to replace the older, small gauge wiring in the stock harness.

It is recommended that you use larger gauge wiring (10 Ga.) to be sure you are delivering all of the voltage possible to your headlights.  This is especially true if you are using higher power bulb type headlights, which put an even larger strain on your wiring and fuse holder, which has enough problems with the current demands of stock sealed beam headlights.
