THE EFFECTS OF WORN CLUTCH PEDAL HOLES

The clutch master cylinder is attached to the clutch pedal by a U shaped connector that screws onto the master cylinder plunger shaft.  There are two holes, about 1/4" in diameter, to receive a pin that connects the master cylinder plunger to the clutch pedal.  If the hole in the clutch pedal, or the holes in the U shaped adapter should wear into an egg shape the clutch may not disengage properly, acting just as though the clutch plate were worn out.

The master cylinder adaptor on the right is badly worn, as shown by the comparison with the adapter on the left.

After replacing the adapter on the right with the adapter on the left the transmission shifted smoothly.  There is still wear in the new adapter that will need to be corrected, but at least for now things are working properly.
